The School of Music at West Chester University has an outstanding reputation and we are so glad that you’re considering our program for your undergraduate education. Being a School of Music gives us the ability to present many different opportunities to our students. There are about 400 undergraduate students enrolled in music degree programs at WCU and we have several ensembles so that every student has an opportunity to perform and explore their musical interests. Our internationally renowned faculty offer an incredible depth of education to our students with their extensive education and experience, and additionally we offer several guest artist performances and masterclasses each year coupled with the abroad experiences that we arrange for our student ensembles. Keeping our class sizes small, our students receive sufficient individualized instruction; all of our classes are taught by full professors rather than graduate assistants. Our engaging curriculum competitively prepares our students for successful careers and graduate school opportunities.

In our state-of-the-art facilities you will be learning on the latest technology and performing in beautiful venues. The Swope Music Building and Performing Arts Center is home to the Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre and Ware Family Recital Hall, as well as two computer labs equipped with iMac computers and the latest music software. We also house our own Presser Music Library, an Instrument Rental room, and more than 33 practice rooms of all kinds. West Chester University is in the heart of the borough of West Chester, a great town with a lot to offer to our university community. Just a short SEPTA ride from locations like Philadelphia and King of Prussia, our students are able to gain a great cultural experience in the community.

As the Program Counselor for the College of Visual and Performing Arts, I invite you to register for a Swope Music Building tour so that you can come in and get to know our program better, and be sure to visit our Undergraduate Audition Days page to get a better understanding of the application and audition process. Should there be any way that I can help you to best make your choice about your future collegiate career – from tours and auditions, understanding the curriculum, through your graduation – I am happy to help. I look forward to hearing from you!
