2008 Oxford, England Summer Program:
Music and Culture in England, 1580 - 1943

WCU faculty members Mark Rimple, Patricia Powell, and Julian Onderdonk will present an intensive study of Music and Culture in England, 1580 – 1943. The course is available as a non-credit Academic Intensive, or as a 3 credit Music History & literature course: MHL 469 or 679.
Our faculty scholars will lead and intensive exploration of English music and culture during three of its most dynamic and prolific ages. In West Chester and in Oxford, we sill study the history, repertoire, techniques , instruments and performing practices of a wide variety of music. In Oxford, participants will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the subtle interactions between music and society. Activities will include performances and presentations in historic venues as well as visits to museums, concert halls m, and cultural and historic sites.
Schedule:
July 14-24 in West Chester, Monday –Thursday, half days; July 25-August 3 in residence at historic Lincoln College, Oxford University.
