The main factor in my coming to WC aside from the prestigious music program was the close proximity to the city and the abundant opportunities to experience various cultural events.

How do I sign up to audition for the School of Music?

  1. To be eligible for an audition you must first apply to West Chester University
  2. Second; be sure that your high school Guidance Counselor forwards all pertinent information to the Office of Admissions. Transfer students must have transcripts forwarded to Admissions.
  3. After the Office Admissions has reviewed your materials they will notify the School of Music and we will contact you to schedule an audition.

I’d like to schedule a visit to WCU and the School of Music. Is that possible?

  1. Contact the Office of Admissions to sign up for one of several “Preview Days” held throughout the academic year, or arrange a campus tour & presentation.
  2. High School seniors and transfer students may call the Undergraduate Coordinator of the School of Music at (610 436-2650) to arrange a consultation and/or personal or group interview, as appropriate.

When will I know if I am accepted into the music program?

  • Because we only invite those to audition for the School of Music that are already cleared by the Office of Admissions, you will usually know if you are accepted to the School of Music before you leave campus on audition day!

What are the audition requirements?

  • See insert or check out the School of Music website.

Can I major in Jazz?

  • Yes! However, the Jazz Performance Degree is a very selective program that is only available in the instrumental areas of saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass (acoustic and electric), piano, and percussion. See the “Audition Requirements” for specific information.

Tell me about Music Therapy at WCU. How does that work?

  • This equivalency program is geared for students enrolled in any W.C.U. Undergraduate degree in Music.  The program is offered in collaboration with Immaculata College.  The curriculum in music therapy, which is in accordance with the recommendations established by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), provides eligibility to take the national certification examination administered by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT), upon completion of all academic and clinical requirements.

If I’m accepted as a Music major at WCU, can I minor in another field?

  • Yes. However, because all music major degree programs are quite demanding, counseling and subsequent approval from your academic advisor is required.

What Scholarships are available specifically for music students?

  • While most of our music scholarships are for currently enrolled students based upon competitions, GPA, faculty recommendations, etc., click here for a complete listing of all School of Music Scholarships.
