Faculty News

Assistant Professor John Bellomo is the fight choreographer for Delaware Shakespeare Festival's production of Hamlet.

Constance Case, assistant professor of costuming, attended the 11th Annual Online Learning Consortium Blended Learning Conference & Workshop in Denver, CO.  During this conference, she was able to discover and share effective practices in blended learning, attending many interactive workshops, information sessions, and poster sessions that focused on instructional practices, academic planning, faculty development and assessment/evaluation. She also successfully completed an online course through the Sloan Online Consortium that focused on creating courses for online learning.   All this to help get her ready for teaching WCUPA’s Costume History and Design course to be offered online in the Spring of 2015 for the FIRST TIME EVER!

Cast in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, or What You Will, associate professor Leonard Kelly is performing with the Commonwealth Classic Theatre Company. Dates and locations can be found here. He will also be attending the Voice and Speech Teacher’s Association (VASTA) annual conference in London this August.

Tom Haughey, Assistant Professor and Technical Director, is the scenic designer for A Midsummer Night's Dream, performed by Downingtown East Theatre at the Eagleview Town Center.

The dance faculty traveled to London this summer for a one-week residency at the Claremont Project. Associate professor Gretchen Studlien-Webb, along with professors Staruch and Urrutia taught classes in modern, jazz, tap, yoga and American line dance at the center and accompanied 5 WCU dance students as they presented both faculty (Staruch and Urrutia) and student choreography in a finale concert.. Follow their trip on the Theatre and Dance blog on Tumblr or WCUTheatreDance on Instagram.

Associate Professor Liz Staruch attended the national conference of the American College Dance Association (formerly ACDFA) in Washington, DC as an elected member of the national ACDA Board of Directors representing the Northeast region.

Interdisciplinary artist and assistant professor maria urrutia will be presenting two performance works Iba Yo and In Absence at the World Dance Alliance Conference in Angers, France this summer. She will then return to continue rehearsals with the Cardell Dance Theater on Supper: People on the Move as part of the Swathmore Project Residency and perform this next stage of the work at the Ice Box in Philadelphia.

Student News

Daniel Byrne ’16 is a Clubhouse Performer at Six Flags Great Adventures Park in Jackson, NJ. Over the summer, he will also attend a week-long intensive at The Open Jar Institute in New York City, learning from Broadway performers, directors and composers.

Grace Cowley ’17 is a production/management intern this summer with the Delaware Theatre Company in Wilmington, DE.

Megan Fitzwater ’17 has a summer marketing internship with Garrett Lakes Arts Festival in McHenry, MD.

Erika Flanick ’17 will play June in Gypsy at the Hershey Area Playhouse this summer.

Jennifer Goodwin ’17 is working for Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown, NY as a box office intern this summer.

Darius Johnson ’16 will be performing in Hairspray for Acting Naturally, Shrek the Musical with Heritage Theatre and interning with Bristol Riverside Theatre for their summer musical season.

Ryan Lauer ’16 is an entertainer at Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA this summer.

Hailey Lockner ’17 is working for Mr. B Entertainment at Studio H in Hershey Park this summer.

Maura McColgan ’15 will be playing Sister Bear in The Berenstain Bears this summer with The Greater Ocean City Theatre Company in Ocean City, New Jersey.

Amber Marcoon is published in the Best American Short Plays (2012-2013) by Applause. Her play Between the Lines was presented during WCU’s Evening of One Acts in addition to the Cape May Stage National Playwright's Symposium.

Genevieve Powers'16 will be performing in Shrek, the Musical at York Little Theater in York, PA.

Staci Quinlan ’17 will be working with the Disney College Program this coming fall.

Chris Trombetta ’15 will attend a week-long intensive at The Open Jar Institute in New York City, learning from Broadway performers, directors and composers.

Sean Vermeire ’15 is an acting apprentice with the Delaware Shakespeare Festival this summer.
