Student Spotlight

Name: Sarah Evans
Area of Study: Theatre - Musical Theatre concentration
Hometown: Prospect Park, PA
Expected Graduation: May 2016

Why did you decide to attend West Chester University?

I decided to visit West Chester University because I had heard from a friend that this school had an amazing theatre program.  What ultimately made up my mind was the fact that when students graduate from West Chester, they have a broad knowledge of every part of theatre.  Although I am concentrating on the performance aspect of theatre, I feel that to be a valuable citizen in the theatre world I must be well versed in all the aspects of theatre.

What is your favorite thing about the Department of Theatre and Dance?

My favorite thing about the department is the sense of family.  If anyone needs help with audition techniques or an opinion on a scene they are working on, they can ask any person in the department and they will help them to the best of their ability.

What didn't you know about the Department of Theatre and Dance before you came to WCU?

I didn’t know that this department was going to have the kind of dynamic it does before I came here.  I was pleasantly surprised by all of the kind hearted people I met upon arriving.  After only one year, I have learned so much.  I have an interview for a summer internship at the historic Hedgerow Theatre because of all of the work I did in the past year.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

When I graduate, I plan to jump into the theatre world whether that be in Philadelphia or New York City.  I know it will be scary, but I am confident that this program will prepare me for the giant leap.

What would you like to tell students considering WCU or the Department of Theatre and Dance?

I want to tell a prospective student that going to West Chester was the best decision I’ve ever made and I would recommend this school and the Department of Theatre and Dance to anyone who wants to pursue a career in the theatre world.
