Athletic Training Graduate Program (Professional, entry level)

The Master of Science in Athletic Training program is designed to prepare students to become athletic trainers. The program is designed for students with minimal or no knowledge and experience in athletic training.

There are two entry options for this program:

Post-Baccalaureate: Master of Science in Athletic Training

Two-year program. This program is only for those students who have already completed a bachelor's degree (in any major other than athletic training) and have met the admission requirements for the professional phase of the MS in Athletic Training program. This two-year program is intended for college graduates who have completed their bachelor's degree and who may want to change careers, individuals who didn't have time during their undergraduate years to major in athletic training and international students who want a career in athletic training.

Upon completion of this Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE)-accredited program, students will be eligible to sit for the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC) examination. Upon successful completion of this examination students will become BOC-certified athletic trainers (ATC). Most states use the results from this examination to determine eligibility to practice athletic training and obtain licensure. Learn more about the admissions process.

The Master of Science in Athletic Training professional program prepares students for the national Board of Certification (BOC) exam and a career as an Athletic Trainer. The Commission on the Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (caATe) accepted our application for the degree change in December 2016. The newly accredited degree level for the WCU Athletic Training Program is the Master of Science in Athletic Training.
