Dayo is eight years old and lives in South Africa. Her favorite subjects are writing and math, and she enjoys helping her friends
with their home work. When she grows up, she wants to be a teacher.
Dayo has AIDS. And she doesn't know it.
Dayo is only one of the 5.6 million people in South Africa infected with
the HIV virus. South Africa has the highest AIDS prevalence of any country
in the world. In 2005, there were an estimated 3 million children living
as orphans due to the AIDS virus. And that
number keeps growing.
