Dr. Monica Lepore

Dr. Lepore has been a dedicated member of the Kinesiology Department for 26 years. 

"Doc" Lepore is a Certified Adapted Physical Educator that teaches Health and Physical Education Teacher Certification (HPETC) majors how to include children with disabilities into physical education and health classes as well as after school sports and aquatics programs. She developed the Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities Minor Program , which was implemented in 2006.

She deeply believes in service learning for students, through her Camp Abilities program,  and provides students with a multitude of enriching volunteer experiences including:

  • WCU Rammies, Special Olympics Swim Team
  • Beast of the East Wheelchair Rugby Tournament
  • Chester County Special Olympics Soccer League
  • Sami Zajac Adapted Dance Camp

Dr. Lepore has a large collection of awards for her service including Adapted Physical Education Professional of the Year-American Alliance for Health Physical Education(AAHPERD), Recreation and Dance, National Meritorious Award-American Alliance for Health Physical Education, Recreation and Dance/American Association for Active Lifestyles and Fitness Aquatic Council,Leader of Distinction for Business and Professional Award-Greater West Chester Sunrise Rotary, and Professional Award-Delaware County Down's Syndrome Assocation.

Her Professional Services includes:

  • Chair of the American Association for Active Lifestyles and Fitness (AAALF) Aquatic Council Adapted Aquatics-6 yearsSecretary of AAHPERD/AAPAR Adapted Physical Activity Council 2 years
  • Adapted Physical Education National Standards (APENS) Committee-7 years, where she helped design national standards and develop a test for the distinction of "Certified Adapted Physical Educator"

Dr. Lepore has written the only textbook for Adapted Aquatics:"Adapted Aquatics Programming: A professionals guide" . She also wrote, consulted for, and appeared in the DVD " Intro to Adapted Aquatics"  which was published in 2006.

John K. Williams, Jr International Adapted Aquatics Award Recipient, 2001

Established in 1994 by the Adaptive Aquatics Committee of the International Swimming Hall of Fame this award honors an individual who has made significant and substantial contributions to the field of adaptive aquatics (aquatics for persons with disabilities) as a participant, athlete, teacher, instructor, coach, organizer, administrator or media representative.
