Community Service - Summer Opportunities

Art Camp

Community Service Activities: The Wayne Art Center is providing 11 one-week art camp sessions between June 4 and August 24, 2012. Session include some of the following activities: fine art, ceramics, jewelry, drama, and culinary arts.

Barn at Spring Brook Farm

The Barn at Spring Brook Farm provides animal assisted activities for children with disabilities for the purpose of promoting enrichment, knowledge, confidence, self-esteem, and physical well-being.  Miniature horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, a bunny and some baby ducks, in a fully handicapped accessible barn, are on hand to help fulfill the organization's mission.

Community Service Activities: Volunteers help with four one-week day camps.  Camps are usually held in June and July.  Volunteer training is provided.

Camp at Old Mill

Community Service Activities:  Volunteers are needed are camps that are held in July.  Volunteer hours are flexible and can attend for certain hours or days, or entire week to assist children.  volunteers will assist kindergarten to 5th grade age groups with arts and crafts, water activities, and games. 

 

Camp Dreamcatcher

Camp Dreamcatcher provides therapeutic service to children infected/affected by HIV/AIDS. The campers enjoy hiking, swimming, go-carts, mini golf, yoga, and massage.

Camp Dreamcatcher is held on the grounds of Camp Saginaw in Oxford, PA for one week in mid-August.

Camp Innabah

Community Service Activities: Camp Innabah is a Christian summer camp opportunity that provides a variety of experiences, such as overnight summer camps, dam camps, retreat groups, and gym rentals. Camp Innabah offers numerous summer camp sessions for a variety of grade level groups; for specific information, please refer to the website.

Camp Invention

Camp Invention program is a nationally recognized weeklong summer program for children in first through sixth grades. The camp provides enrichment programming in the fields of science, mathematics, history, and the arts. Local school districts host the summer camp programs and are led by local teachers.

Camp Media Theatre

Chester County Art Association Summer Art Camps

Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation 

This is an 18th century living-history farm located in Ridley Creek State Park, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

Community Service Activity:  During the week, students interested in education or colonial history can work as guides in the education department at Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation by giving tours and workshops to area school children.  The general hours of operation at the Colonial Plantation are Monday-Friday 9 am-2 pm (April through November), but reflect scheduled field trip times of visiting school children. On weekends, the site is open to families and visitors to experience the daily life of a colonial farm family living in southeastern Pennsylvania. Volunteers guide them through the house and grounds by performing "living history" and participating in the special events. The hours of operation on weekends are Saturday and Sunday 11 am-5 pm (April through November). Training is provided and period clothing is available on a daily basis.

Dragonfly Forest

Dragonfly Forest is committed to offering children with serious illnesses and disorders the opportunity to enjoy an overnight camp experience in an environment that is safe, equipped to meet a variety of physical, medical and psychological needs, nurturing, and filled with activities that allow each child to reach their "full fun."

Community Service Activities: Camp activities include rock climbing, archery, sports, fishing, team building, and arts and crafts. Camps are available for children ages 5 through 16 years. Summer camp opportunities are available throughout the summer with various section dates.

Philadelphia Spells

During the summer, Philadelphia Spells hosts a free 6-week writing camp for ages 7–13. The program runs weekdays during July and early August from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
