National Organization Website

The department has an active chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA), which is open to both undergraduate and graduate student membership. When you enroll as a member of the national organization, you automatically become a member of the department chapter. Membership in the national organization entitles you to all the professional journals which ASHA distributes as well as to special privileges; such as, newsletters and reduced rates for convention registration.

Important information regarding last year’s activities:

The 2015 NSSLHA Conference, titled “SLP-ABA: Interprofessional Collaboration for Supporting Children with ASD,” was extremely informative and well attended. The conference presenters were Jennifer Dawson, Ph.D., BCBA, BSL, Cherie Fishbaugh, M.S., BCBA, BSL, Joanne Gerenser, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Mareile Koenig, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, and Corinne Murphy, PhD., BCBA-D.

Nicole Hearn, a diligent NSSLHA officer, was awarded the Suppan Scholarship in the spring of 2015. Nicole served as NSSLHA Service Chair and Vice President for 2014-2015 and is the current NSSLHA Vice President.

The West Chester University chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association was awarded NSSLHA Gold Chapter Honors in 2015, for the second year in a row. This honor is given to NSSLHA chapters that have demonstrated distinction in the areas of "philanthropy, community service, career awareness, advocacy, and networking."

Member Honors was awarded to Kaitlyn Smith, past NSSLHA Vice President, 2014-2015.
