This class/workshop will provide education and instruction on reflexology techniques performed on the feet. Hand reflexology will be discussed as well but will not be the focus here.
Reflexology is a complementary modality used in health care. Reflexology involves the physical act of applying pressure to the feet or hands with specific thumb, finger and hand techniques. The zones or reflex areas of the hand or feet are believed to represent or reflect different areas on the body. Stimulation of these areas is believed to enhance physical change and healing.Practitioners hold that physical stress and discomfort in areas of the body can be relieved by applying pressure to the reflex points on the feet. These pressure points may act to balance the nervous system or perhaps release endorphins to assist in modulating discomfort. The Mind-Body Institute of Applied Psychophysiology is considering a randomized, blinded, controlled research project to study and hopefully quantify results of this modality. Details may be discussed by the faculty.
