The 30th Annual Mary Kline Professional Nursing Day

Keynote Speaker: Anita Symonds MS, BSN, RN SANE-A, SANE-P
“When seconds count…Forensic Nursing in Christiana Emergency Department”

Ms. Symonds has a master’s degree in Forensic Medicine from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She has worked in critical care for 21 years and as a forensic nurse for 15 years. Since 2002, she has been the coordinator of the Forensic Nurse Examiner program, located in an Emergency Department of Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Delaware.  The forensic team serves over 2000 forensic patients a year. They provide services to Domestic violence, elder abuse /neglect, child abuse/neglect, sexual assault victims, pedestrians struck by motor vehicles, victims of fire and victims of crimes that have resulted in life threatening injuries.

  3. Participants will be able to identify one type of fantasy interactive biofeedback monitoring device.

"Mindfulness for the Care Provider"

Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify symptoms of compassion fatigue as it relates to professional effectiveness.
  2. Participants will be able to define what mindfulness-based stress reduction is and how it would apply to their self-care.
  3. Participants will explore how to implement use of mindfulness in the work setting.
