Title: Alternative Voting Methods: Choosing a Winner

Abstract: There have been many controversial elections in recent history, including the infamous 2000 Presidential race in Florida. Whenever there is a close election, there seems to be an outcry for a new voting system to be used. In this talk we will discuss some of these alternative voting systems (many of which are used around the world) and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Choosing the winner of an election is not as easy as you might think... [This talk is suitable for a general audience and does not assume any advanced mathematical knowledge.]
