Advising Guides

Scheduling:

Students have the responsibility to meet all of their graduation requirements. With this responsibility comes the freedom to schedule courses on their own. All marketing majors, however, are assigned to one of the full-time marketing department faculty members who serves as their academic advisor. Students are required to see their advisor to gain access to scheduling. Whenever students have questions, or are unsure of the appropriate course of action concerning academic matters, they should consult with their advisor.

Entering Freshman - Fall Semester

For the fall semester, entering Freshman are provided with a completed first semester schedule during the summer orientation session. Each schedule is prepared from a department prototype and includes appropriate placement in English and Mathematics (based on SAT scores or placement tests). This process provides entering students with better class times than was possible when each student registered for courses during orientation. Any needed adjustments to schedules can be made during the orientation session.

Entering Transfer Students / Spring Semester Freshman

You will receive instructions to telephone the department (610-436-2304) to set up an appointment for registration. Transfer students should schedule this appointment after they have received a Preliminary Evaluation of Transfer Credits form. This form, and a list of any currently scheduled courses, should be brought to the appointment. You will be meeting with a faculty member who will advise you of courses needed and help you plan your first semester WCU schedule.

Prototype Schedules

For all students entering West Chester University in Fall 2003 or later, the General Education and major requirements have changed. All students, however, will find that there are a variety of ways to meet these requirements. For this reason, the advising guides merely suggest typical schedules which can be used to meet these requirements.
