The Department of Chemistry at West
Chester University
offers undergraduate degree programs in
Chemistry (ACS
approved),
Forensic and
Toxicological Chemistry (FEPAC
full accreditation),
Biochemistry (ACS
approved),
Chemistry-Biology, and
Chemical
Education, as well as
a
Minor in Chemistry. In terms of degrees awarded, our
department is among
the largest in the Pennsylvania State System of
Higher Education, and in the Philadelphia
region.
All courses, including
laboratories, are taught by faculty; all of whom have a
doctorate degree and excel at teaching. Research is
undertaken as an essential extension of teaching on a
one-to-one basis. Over 75 students have been coauthors of
research publications. In addition, many have presented their
work at scientific meetings.
Our graduates have an enviable record of 84% placement in
chemistry-related fields or in graduate or professional school
at the time of graduation. WCU chemists have been successful
in chemical, pharmaceutical, scientific instrument,
environmental and many other companies. In addition, many have
completed doctoral programs in chemistry at prestigious
graduate schools, such as University
of Pennsylvania,
Texas A and
M University, and
Columbia
University.
