2012 Premio Vargas Llosa

Hannah Mistovich was awarded the 2012 Mario Vargas Llosa Award by Sigma Delta Pi (The National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society) and the AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese). This was the second time the SDP/AATSP Premio Mario Vargas Llosa is awarded.

Sigma Delta Pi - Pi Xi Chapter

In April 2011, our PI XI Chapter was approved for reactivation by the National Organization.

On April 28th, 2011 we held the first ceremony to initiate 14 of our students and 7 Honorary members.

On April 25th, 2012, 16 students were initiated, as well as 4 honorary members.

On May 8th, 2013, 13 students were initiated.

Membership Requirements

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS:

(a)     you have completed at least three (3) years (18 semester hours) of college-level Spanish or the equivalent, including at least three semester hours of a third-year Hispanic Literature or Hispanic Culture and Civilization course. [You may count current enrollment if necessary]; If you bypassed courses and placed directly into 202, 301, etc. your bypassed courses count towards the 18 semester hours. As per our curriculum, to comply with point a) you must have completed SPA 301 and SPA 302 as well as one (1) of the following courses: SPA 304, SPA 310, SPA 315, SPA 320 or SPA 321. You can count current enrollment in any of those three courses.
(b)     your Spanish courses GPA is at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (in ALL college-level Spanish courses taken);
(c)     You have a minimum of 3.2 cumulative GPA;
(d)     You have completed at least three semesters of the college course (That is, you need to have completed as many courses as to be currently considered a second semester sophomore).

GRADUATE STUDENTS:

“Graduate students who have been unconditionally admitted to a degree-granting program may be elected to membership upon completion of two graduate courses in Spanish with an average which, if continued, will make them eligible for a graduate degree.”
