INTERDISCIPLINARY PROGRAMS

MAJOR PROGRAM

American Studies:
The Bachelor of Arts in American Studies permits students to explore American civilization through a wide range of academic disciplines. The program's elective concentration enables students to tailor their curriculum around their academic, career, and personal interests. Students complete the major with a three-to-fifteen credit internship at an off-campus government agency, business or cultural institution.  This program is housed in the Department of History; contact the department chair or Dr. William Hewitt at 610-436-2345 for more information.

RELATED MINOR PROGRAMS

American Studies:
The Department of History also offers a minor in American Studies to any student, regardless of major, who satisfactorily completes 18 semester hours of required American Studies, United States History, American Literature, and approved elective courses.  For more information, contact the department chair or Dr. William Hewitt  at 610-436-2345.

Holocaust Studies:
The program in Holocaust studies deals not only with historical aspects of the Holocaust, but also with moral and political issues involved in the prevention of future holocausts.  This minor may be taken as one of the minors in the bachelor of arts or bachelor of science in liberal studies general degree program. For more information on Holocaust studies, contact Dr. Jonathan Friedman in the Department of History.

Latin American Studies:
The West Chester University offers an eighteen-credit minor in Latin American Studies. Students choose between two concentrations: one with a foreign language requirement, the other without.  Contact the Department of Foreign Languages for more information.

Peace and Conflict Studies:
Peace and conflict studies examines social conflict, conflict resolution, and cooperation at the group, national, and international levels. The peace and conflict studies minor consists of 18 credit hours, some of which also may be used to fulfill other degree requirements. For more information, contact Frederick R. Struckmeyer, 103 Main Hall

Women's Studies:
The aim of this 18-credit program is to integrate the perception and experience of women into the curriculum and to encourage inquiry into previously neglected areas, such as women's history, women's literature and art, psychology of women, and women's position in society.  This program also offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Women's Studies.   For Women's Studies at WCU, contact Dr. Jen Bacon, 211 Main Hall.
