The MA in Geography prepares students for a variety of career choices-in planning , in environmental work, in population and site analysis, and for entry into many government agencies such as EPA, Census, CIA, and Forestry as well as private sector jobs. It also prepares students for entry into Ph.D. programs (and thus far all students who elect to go on for further graduate degrees have been accepted, always with full financial support, and complete those programs successfully). The degree program minimally involves 11 geography classes, at least one of which is credits for thesis work. A thesis is required. Other specific requirements have been kept minimal (four courses) so that a remaining program of study can be tailored to each student's interests, prior background, and career aspirations. The advising process gives students careful individual attention so that their interests are met, and so that they graduate in timely manner. Three well-equipped GIS labs are available for graduate student work. Students who enter the program on a full time basis should be able to attain the MA degree in two years. The Department of Geography offers courses at Graduate and Undergraduate levels. |
