How will WCU publicize class cancellations, delayed openings and/or University closings?
When adverse weather conditions affect the routine operation of the University, information regarding class cancellation, delayed openings, and/or University closings will be publicized via multifaceted communication media. Click here to view all communication resources.

To review the University’s policies regarding weather-related emergencies.
The most up-to-date and specific information, including weather developments, event cancellations and postponements, or changes to the final exam schedule, can be obtained by viewing the WCU homepage.
Please do not call Public Safety for class delays or cancellations as such calls will tie up phone lines needed for emergencies.

Weather Alert - Snow Removal Procedures Snow
With the possibilities of snow and ice during these months, Facilities personnel from Grounds, Custodial and Plant Operations are prepared to clear the parking lots, roads and sidewalks, so that people and vehicles can move about campus safely and WCU activities can proceed as usual.
Please help us during an inclement weather event by:
 
  • Parking only in a designated area so that plowing operations can proceed unimpeded.
  • Please use the Snow Walk routes to your building. These are the first walk ways that will be cleared and ready for your use. Please review the Snow Removal link for details.
  • Help maintain a safe campus by alerting Facilities to potential ice hazards that you observe or are reported to you. Call Work Control x2444 (8AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday) to report any hazardous conditions immediately. After normal working hours, please report any hazardous conditions to Public Safety at x3311.

WCU has contracted with e2campus to provide the service WCU ALERT, which sends you direct text messages of WCU announcements - class cancellations, delayed openings, university closings, on-campus emergencies, and the occasional test message. WCU ALERT provides the most effective way to communicate safety to all students, faculty and staff – wherever you are. WCU ALERT is completely free to sign up. Cancellation/Postponement Information - Events and other WCU-related functions
Generally, should adverse weather conditions make it inadvisable to operate the University, all University-related events or functions will also be cancelled. The WCU homepage at will carry the most up-to-date and specific information regarding event cancellation or postponement notices. Persons attending events scheduled to occur at the University by non-University organizations should contact their event organizer for cancellation information.
