To apply for a Federal Stafford loan, students must indicate their interest by their response to question #31 on the FAFSA. The school will receive this information and certify eligibility for the loan. Students who are selected for federal verification must complete this process before any loan can be certified.
To accept a loan offered as part of your financial aid package ALL students MUST do so on-line via the MYWCU link on West Chester University's website.
In addition, at the time first-time borrowers accepts their loan on line they must select a lender First time borrowers must ALSO sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN). This is a serial note, which means that students may borrow funds using this same promissory note for up to ten (10) years. Students will receive information about signing a MPN when the school certifies the loan. This information can also be downloaded at the www.aessuccess.org web site. Citibank borrowers use www.studentloan.com.
The MPN must be completed and returned via electronic signature (PIN), before the loan can be guaranteed and the funds sent to the school. First-time borrowers must also complete an entrance-counseling session, a federally mandated program for students to learn about their rights and responsibilities as participants in the Stafford loan program. Students can complete this requirement at www.aessuccess.org. Under "Other Helpful Tools," click on "entrance and exit counseling" and choose the "entrance" option. Be sure to register West Chester University as the school in the drop-down box, or the session will be invalid. In-person counseling is also available by appointment in the Financial Aid Office.
