There are many models for career development; at WCU, we teach and utilize the approach that career development is a life-long, cyclical process. Students have different experiences, goals, and strengths; depending upon all of the factors that influence students, not everyone will progress through this process in the same manner or on the same timeline. And yet it is our goal to help students understand this process so they can most successfully navigate their own career development throughout their lifetime.
Decision-Making: Identify where you are in the decision-making process and what next steps will be helpful for you.
Self-Awareness: Think about your dreams, interests, values, and skills and how they relate to majors and careers.
Exploration: Review majors, careers, and student activities to help you narrow down your options.
Preparation & Experience: Strengthen your professional skills by writing a resume and cover letter, interviewing, and applying to opportunities.
Reflection & Action: Consider how things are going and your future goals.
Be a part of student success at West Chester University by helping to identify employment opportunities for students!
Talented students graduate each year from the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business and Public Affairs, Education, Health Sciences, and Visual and Performing Arts. If your organization needs excellent new talent, consider posting job openings at no cost to your organization on Ram Career Network, the one-stop career portal for WCU students, alumni, and employers.
One of the best ways for students to prepare for future careers is to gain experience while still in college. Most WCU students have the option of pursuing an internship through their academic departments.
If you work for an organization that has an internship program, we invite you to refer that opportunity to us by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Employers may post internships, at no cost, on Ram Career Network. We also refer interested employers to the internship contact within the appropriate academic departments.
The WCU Foundation seeks to create new scholarship and endowment opportunities for WCU students, as well as manage already existing scholarships. Visit their website to learn more.
