- Provide personal assistance to students participating in the Mentoring Program.

- Assist in the development of skills necessary for mentees to succeed at WCU.
|
- Guide in developing realistic goals and expectations for the mentees.
|
- Encourage, motivate, and guide mentees toward achieving academic excellence.
|
- Serve as a role model, resource, confidante, and friend.
|
- Refer mentees to appropriate departments, staff, and resources.
|
- Participate in orientation and training programs to enhance skills for effective mentoring.
|
- Commit to serve as a mentor for at least one academic year.
|
- Encourage mentees to foster his/her own personal development by attending co-curricular programs.
|
- Meet with mentees at a minimum three times per month.
|
- Establish standard times to meet with mentees.
|
- Work closely with the Coordinator of Mentoring Program.
|
- Maintain confidentiality, except in case of emergency.
|
- Submit summaries of meetings with mentees twice a month or as needed.
|
- Maintain good academic and judicial standing.
|
- Accompany mentees to planned programs and events.
|
- Demonstrates a commitment to personal and academic development of self and mentees.
|
- Afforded the opportunity to have a positive impact on mentees' success and achievements.

- Acquire an increased appreciation for people of diverse backgrounds.

- Create new support networks for the peer mentor and mentees.
|
- Assist mentees in becoming acclimated to the campus community and aware of campus resources.
|
- Assist mentees in avoiding common academic, social, and personal pitfalls.
|
- Enhance leadership and coaching skills.
|
- Provides intrinsic satisfaction (makes you feel good) by helping an emerging new student develop to his/her potential.

- Ability to lead mentees to a higher level of thinking.
