Jared Brown

Jared Brown
Director of New Student Programs

Education/Professional Experience: B.A. And M.A. in Communication Studies with a cognate focus in Student Personnel Services earned from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Adjunct Faculty at Delaware County Community College
Responsibilities: As the Director of New Student Programs I oversee the programming and planning for the New Student Orientations Part 1: June and Part 2: August. I coordinate Transfer and Non-Traditional Orientation programming as well as New Student Success opportunities throughout the year. I am responsible for Welcome Week, the New Student Leadership Retreat "Soar," and Parent and Family Weekend events. I also serve on a number of University committees to ensure students' success as they transition from year to year at WCU.
New Student Advice: "As a new student to WCU I have four main recommendations to ensure a successful transition. One: Get involved in a club or organization! Two: Build a relationship with both your academic advisor and professors! Three: Utilize the Student Support Services on campus--these offices are here to help you! And Four: Check your WCU email often…many great opportunities or important information will come to you via your WCU email account. I look forward to meeting you at both Orientation Part 1 June and Orientation Part 2 August!"

Ellen DiSanti

Ellen DiSanti
Office of New Student Programs Staff Assistant

Education: B.A. in Communication Studies from West Chester University
Responsibilities: As staff assistant, my main responsibility is overseeing the day-to-day operation of the New Student Programs Office.  This includes working with the director to plan the orientation programs, coordinating logistics with other University departments, and working with the orientation staff. I also update the orientation website, oversee the orientation registration process and monitor orientation attendance.  I'm the first point of contact for students and parents who have questions about orientation.
New Student Advice: "Sometimes the first semester of college can be overwhelming. You're dealing with so many new things. Figure out what works best for you to stay organized--making lists, setting reminders on a phone, color coding everything in a planner, etc.  Keep track of important deadlines. Whether it's knowing when the next exam is, when a paper is due or when you need to make an advising appointment to schedule for spring, you'll enjoy your first semester more if you know you've got things under control."
