West Chester University's Candidate Information

General Information:
All candidates for initial certification in Pennsylvania must have earned at least a baccalaureate degree, completed an approved program of teacher education, and passed The Praxis Series tests for their certification area as indicated on the table included below. The Pennsylvania Department of Education will recognize scores for 10 years from the date of the test administration.

Recent Changes in Effect
from Educational Testing Service (ETS) 

1. PLEASE NOTE: Cell phones, BlackBerry devices, PDAs and/or any other electronic or photographic devices are not permitted at the test center at all. If you bring such devices to the test center, you will be dismissed from the test, your registration and test fees will be forfeited and your scores will be canceled. Test center staff are not permitted to collect and/or store devices.

2. ETS, in conjunction with PDE, offers the option to re-test for free IF all established guidelines are met.

           GUIDELINES:

  • G.P.A of 3.0 or better
  • Missed the state passing score by three points or less
  • Failed the test no more than two times
  • If eligible, go to 302 Recitation Hall with your official transcript(s) and all Praxis score reports.
  • Delays in testing due to late/missed registration could cause postponement of student teaching

3. Starting with the September 2009 test administration, all test takers, regardless of registration method will access their scores online. Scores are available to download and print free for 45 days.  Test takers who request score reports after 45 days will incur an ETS fee. Paper score reports will no longer be sent to Praxis test-takers.

Computer-based tests (CBT) for Praxis I (PPST Reading, Mathematics, & Writing) may be taken at examinee's convenience - but by appointment through ETS.


Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST). If paying by credit card, you can register by calling Prometric Candidate Services at 1-800-853-6773. If you must pay by check, money order, or U.S. Postal money order, you must complete the Computer-based Test (CBT) Authorization Voucher Request Form, available on the web site.*

Praxis II: Subject Assessments. Register online using a credit card. If you must pay by check, money order, or U.S. Postal money order, download and complete the paper-based registration form. The information for registration can be found online.*

NOTE! All WCU students must have their test scores sent to WCU - recipient score code #2659; include this information when registering for tests.

Praxis Study Aids:
The WCU Learning Assistance and Resource Center offers free workshops each semester for PPST Mathematics and PPST Writing. These workshops are available only to students currently attending the University. (Contact number: 610-436-2535)

A variety of Praxis study guides may be accessed through the Francis Harvey Green Library. In addition, the SSI Bookstore on campus sells a number of Praxis resources.
