Graduates of the public health program have skills which are in demand today due to the growing emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention. Through classroom study, field trips, and actual work experience, public health students acquire the knowledge and skills needed to assess, plan, implement and evaluate public health programs and to help people assume more responsibility for their health and well-being. The public health program offers an undergraduate curriculum that prepares students to work in a variety of health settings. • The B.S. in Public Health/Health Promotion program provides students with a wide variety of service learning opportunities in the community health setting.
• A full-semester internship is a required component of the B.S. in Public Health/Health Promotion progam. The internship has enabled students to gain valuable experience in a wide variety of settings including: county health departments, hospitals, voluntary health agencies, and worksite health promotion.
• The B.S. in Public Health/Health Promotion program at West Chester University is approved by the Society of Public Health Education/American Association for Health Education (SOPHE/AAHE).
• After completion of the program, graduates (and approved seniors) are eligible to take the national examination for certification as health education specialists (Certified Health Education Specialist - CHES) from the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC).
• The B.S. in Public Health/Health promotion program provides graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary for practice and research in the field of health education/health promotion.
