Yoga Teacher Training Program

West Chester University is now offering a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certificate Program. This program can be completed in one to four years and will allow each individual teacher trainee to create a schedule that works best with his or her main course of study while at WCU.

Required Classes:

  • PEA142 Yoga I-6 sections offered each semester. 1 section offered in Summer Session and 1 section offered in Summer III
  • PEA143 Yoga II-1 section offered each semester. 1 section offered in Summer Session III
  • PEA242 Yoga III- 1 section offered beginning Fall 2012 from 4:15-7:00 pm
  • HEA315 Mind Body Health (undergraduate offering typically once per year-in the fall)

The remainder of the 60 hours will include:

  • Assisting Yoga I& II classes
  • Teaching a 5-10 week yoga class for staff and students at WCU
  • 30 seminar hours (offered in the fall and spring) taken with the Primary Teachers: Alison Donley (Kinsiology); Pamela Walsh (Kinesiology); and Dr. Alison Gardiner-Shires(Sports Medicine)

The cost of the program is $850.00*, and can be paid in installments. If you are a full time student, the additional courses for this are basically at no extra cost if you take them as your 5th or 6th class. The fees for this program are for the additional seminars required to fulfill program requirements set forth by WCU and Yoga Alliance.

Upon completion of the 200 hour program, you will receive a certificate from the College of Health Sciences that will allow you to become a registered yoga teacher (R.Y.T.) through Yoga Alliance-the national education and support organization for Yoga in the United States. This designation will allow you to be more marketable in numerous vocations.
