Nursing Summer Day Camp for 9-12 year olds

 

Co-Sponsors - Xi Delta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society, West Chester University Department of Nursing, and Chester County Hospital

    Purpose:

       The purpose of this camp is to facilitate a positive and realistic image of nursing, and identify         nursing as a choice for children prior to making career decisions within their school curriculum.This camp will provide an overview of the nursing profession, experiential learning of beginning nursing  skills, as well as, identify local resources to assist them to enter a health care profession.  The camp will provide the opportunity for campers to explore the great challenges and rewards of nursing mentored by experienced nurses from the community and nursing faculty

    Day Camp objectives:

  1. Orient campers to the role of the nurse
  2. Promote understanding of career opportunities in nursing (education, administration, etc)
  3. Identify nursing influence in patient care
  4. Outline educational prerequisites for entry into a nursing school

     Camp Activities:  

Camp activities include: tour of Chester County Hospital, CPR, nutrition & exercise, infection control, exploration of nursing specialties (for example: maternity, pediatrics, & critical care), scavenger hunt, team building, and obstacle course. 

     Cost:

$75 and includes: Camp t-shirt, beverages & snacks, activity supplies, & educational material.  Campers are expected to bring their own lunch each day.
