The Department of Chemistry at West Chester University offers undergraduate degree programs in Chemistry (ACS approved), Forensic and Toxicological Chemistry (FEPAC full accreditation), Biochemistry (ACS approved), Chemistry-Biology, and Chemical Education, as well as a Minor in Chemistry. In terms of degrees awarded, our department is among the largest in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, and in the Philadelphia region.

All courses, including laboratories, are taught by faculty; all of whom have a doctorate degree and excel at teaching.  Research is undertaken as an essential extension of teaching on a one-to-one basis. Over 75 students have been coauthors of research publications. In addition, many have presented their work at scientific meetings.

Our graduates have an enviable record of 84% placement in chemistry-related fields or in graduate or professional school at the time of graduation. WCU chemists have been successful in chemical, pharmaceutical, scientific instrument, environmental and many other companies. In addition, many have completed doctoral programs in chemistry at prestigious graduate schools, such as University of Pennsylvania, Texas A and M University, and Columbia University.

Highlights of our programs include small class size, research opportunities, modern instrumentation, internship opportunities, and a close-knit intellectual community.
