As a comprehensive state university, WCU offers one of the most affordable undergraduate programs in the region. The Department of History offers a Bachelor of Arts in History (B.A.), a Master of Arts in History (M.A.), and a Master of Education in Social Studies (M.Ed.). Our students may also choose to pursue Pennsylvania teacher certification in social studies as part of their Bachelor of Arts program. A full range of late afternoon and evening undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars enables both full-time and part-time students to make progress in any program at their own pace. With 15 full-time faculty members, the Department of History has specialists in many areas of American and European history as well as African, Asian, Latin American, and Middle East studies. As teacher-scholars, our faculty members value both excellent teaching and active scholarship. Believing that close interaction is an integral part of a university education, the department limits many of its majors-only courses to enrollments of 15-20 students and caps most other history classes at 30 students.
