All students are assigned an academic advisor when they are accepted into the program. Advisors are full-time faculty members available to students for academic, professional, and career guidance. Students are also encouraged to seek professional and career guidance from adjunct faculty and field instructors. Questions about professional opportunities, practice issues, ethical concerns and fit with the profession are appropriate issues to discuss with faculty. Personal issues that affect performance in the classroom are also appropriate for discussion with the academic advisor.
Despite the professional training and credentials of the faculty, if formal mental health support services are necessary, these are best provided by the West Chester University Counseling Center or an outside mental health professional.
Students are introduced to their advisors shortly after acceptance by a welcome email and in-person meeting at pre-matriculation registration sessions.
Because of the specific course sequencing in the MSW Program, students do not frequently consult advisors about specific course selection but are more likely to consult about the content of electives and the specific timing of courses.
