Dr. Kennedy is a native of Catasauqua, Pennsylvania, his research focus is on politics in the Commonwealth and in 2005 he was a featured speaker at the centennial celebration of the state capital building. He resides in Montgomery County with his wife, Kelli their two children, Clare and Shannon, and an assortment of cats, fish, and turtles. He enjoys lap swimming and listening to and collecting music.
Dr. Kennedy received B.S. and M.P.A. degrees from Kutztown University as well as a Ph.D. from Temple University.
He has written two books on state politics, The Contemporary Pennsylvania Legislature (1999) and Pennsylvania Elections (2005), both published by The University Press of America. He also serves on the Executive Board of the Pennsylvania Political Science Association and is a charter member of the Pennsylvania Policy Forum. In addition, Dr. Kennedy is chair of the faculty political action committee, the Committee for Action through Politics (CAP), advisor for the College Democrats, director of the Legislative Fellows program and internship director within the department. He has been a frequent contributor to various news organizations regionally and nationally, such as NBC, PBS, NPR, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, and Al-Jazeera America.
