What You Need To Know About The New SAT
What has changed with the new SAT?
In the past, there were three 800 point sections (Critical Reading, Math, and Writing) on the SAT. After the redesign, there are now two 800 point sections (Evidence Based Reading and Writing and Math) and the essay is optional. For more detailed information check out the College Board’s webpage.
Will WCU accept scores from the old SAT?
Applicants for fall 2017 can submit scores from the old/and or new SAT. Applicants for fall 2018 or later must submit new SAT scores.
Will the University continue to super score?
Yes. Scores from the old test will be converted to a new equivalent and super scored. Scores from the new test will be super scored. As a result, there could be two sets of super scored SATs if you took both the old and new test. The University will review the higher of the two sets to make an admissions decision.
Will WCU require the essay portion?
It is not required.
How will test scores effect scholarships?
As with our super scoring policy, we cannot combine scores from different versions of the SAT. The higher of the two sets of scores will be used in consideration for merit scholarships. For more information, please see our Financial Aid Scholarship Page.
Should I take the ACT or the SAT?
WCU accepts both SAT and ACT scores. It is your decision if you want to take just the SAT or ACT or both.
