M.A. English - Writing, Teaching, and Criticism Track
Certificate in Publishing
Generally, students should have majored in English or a related discipline.
The GRE examinations are not required for admission to the graduate English program.
5-6 page writing sample of analytical writing on a subject related to the study of English
Two letters of recommendation.
Applicants for Certification in Secondary English will need to submit the following materials:

The program prepares students to enroll in advanced graduate programs (for the Ph.D. in literature or composition and rhetoric, for example).
Applicants who do not have a strong undergraduate record in English or do not meet the minimum GPA requirement can still apply to the program and may be accepted provisionally. Students accepted provisionally might be asked to take additional courses (undergraduate or graduate) before being fully admitted into the graduate program.
All applications to the M.A. in English are processed by the Office of Graduate Studies and Extended Education. Do not submit materials directly to the Department of English.
