West Chester University offers an exciting and challenging dance program that prepares its students for dance careers in performance, choreography, and education. Those students involved in the dance program challenge both their bodies and minds through classes in technique, choreography, history, pedagogy, and performance.
A student interested in dance at West Chester University has several options:
For those pursuing dance as a degree:
For those interested in performance with another university major:
A faculty directed University Dance Company (UDC) provide student opportunities in performance, choreography, and arts administration as UDC is run by elected student officers. University Dance Company has two annual concerts: a faculty/guest artist concert in the fall semester, and a student choreographed concert in the spring.
Recent guest artists include Stephanie Beauchamp, Tim Early, Olive Prince, Jodi Aleen Obeid, Michelle Stortz, Reactionaries/Mark O'Maley, and alum Donald C. Shorter Jr, a former Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane company member in NYC.
West Chester University dance students have gone on to graduate school for dance and dance related studies, to perform and choreography professionally, to start their own dance companies, to teach in public and private studios and schools.
