Dance Minor

The Dance Minor consists of 21 credits and can be selected by students in conjunction with most majors at the university. The dance minor provides opportunities in both concert dance and musical theatre.

Course Requirements Include

DAN 344 History of Dance (Writing Emphasis) - 3 credits
Choose two of the following four courses - 6 credits
- DAN 210 Dancer’s Body
- DAN 315 Dance Pedagogy
- DAN 441 Dance Composition
- DAN 442 Musical Theatre Dance & Choreography
Technique - 8 credits of technique in the 200 or 300 level as advised
- African, Ballet, Improvisation, Jazz, Modern, Tap
Experiential - 4 credits
DAN 346 Repertory Development
DAN 446 Repertory Performance

In addition, each dance minor must complete a teaching assistantship to a dance faculty member in a level 1 technique course OR a choreographic assistantship to a dance faculty member in one of the department's productions, and present a recorded portfolio of all material covered in each dance course taken to the dance program coordinator prior to graduation for an exit interview.
