Personal Preparedness

If you are interested in finding out what you can do as an individual or family to prepare for emergencies or protect yourself during an emergency, there are many places you can go to get valuable information that can help to reduce the effects of disaster.

Go to the Department of Homeland Security Website to learn how to get a kit, make a plan and be informed about preparing for emergencies.

Homeland Security and the American Red Cross have teamed up to provide information entitled "Preparing for Disaster." This document not only talks about how to prepare but how to respond as well.

If you are looking for formal training programs in personal preparedness, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (SEPA VOAD) is the place to go. Visit the SEPA VOAD website to find out more about what training is provided and when you can participate. You may also learn about volunteer opportunities that are available.

More information and training is available directly on the Red Cross website. There are also more opportunities to help.
