Summer also is a time when managers, chairs, and supervisors can recognize and help (re)charge their employees. The performance review process helps facilitate those recognition discussions and document employees’ performance...READ MORE & LEARN ABOUT IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES
‘Tis the season when the WCU Grounds Department begins to beautify the campus and we too take the time to spruce up around the outside of our own homes. As part of the process, mulch will be spread around the outside many of our buildings. Mulch is made out of organic materials, and as such it is combustible. Environmental Health and Safety wants to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the spring is a prime time for mulch fires. Be cautious smoking in the area of mulch beds and always dispose of cigarette butts in the proper containers. If you observe smoke coming from or a fire in a mulch bed on campus, contact Public Safety immediately and only use a pressurized water extinguisher (the thin silver container) or a garden hose if you choose to extinguish the flames.

More than ever, the Web is used as a primary source of information. West Chester University’s Web Team, under the direction of Kim Slattery, is an ultra-talented group of web designers who assist with the technical design, production, and maintenance of web sites for West Chester University. Not only is the web team responsible for the external website they also maintain the mobile site, and the internal website SharePoint.
The web team assists with each stage of building and maintaining an attractive and informative website. Presently, the team maintains over 14,000 web pages, while assisting with the development and maintenance of many more. The team also develops online forms, automating and streamlining many manual processes, such as event registration. The web team continues to work on a massive project converting all university web sites to a responsive web design (RWD) to accommodate users accessing the WCU web site from any device. The goal of responsive design is to build web pages that detect the visitor's screen size and orientation and change the layout accordingly across a wide range of devices such as desktops, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. Other projects that the team are currently working on is the implementation of a new Content Management System (CMS) and enhancements to the mobile app. The new CMS will allow our web site editors to edit their pages with more ease both on and off campus. The mobile app includes a new Facilities module, Social Media module, and D2L module. The mobile app can be downloaded from the Information Services & Technology home page.
In this ever changing world of technology the web team is constantly researching new industry techniques to enhance the university’s web site and welcomes suggestions/feedback from the campus community.
