What does ResNet do?

Network troubleshooting, virus removal, hardware repair and troubleshooting. Password reset, product installations, Limited connectivity support for mobile devices and game consoles.

 

What computer should I get?

West Chester University does not require a particular type of computer. However, some models may be better suited to certain majors. Check with your academic department for reccomendations.


How long will it take to get my laptop fixed?
Services are rendered on a first come first serve basis. The problem can be resolved immediately, or it can take longer depending on the severity of the issue.


How can I avoid viruses?

Have up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware, and up to date system software. Run periodic scans to ensure your computer is clean.

 

How come I still got a virus even though I am running anti-virus software?

New viruses are being developed every single day, and companies are working day and night to update virus definitions for the user to keep them protected. The best way to stay safe is to update your anti-virus as much as possible. If you paid for your antivirus, keep your subscription up-to-date.

 

How much does your service cost?
ResNet offers service to all students free-of-charge. All ResNet services are sponsored by the Tech Fee. This fee is paid for by all students in the tuition. If you need any hardware replaced, the student is responsible for the price of the part, but ResNet will install it free of charge. </p>

 

Do I need an appointment?
You do not need an appointment to drop off equipment. You can stop by our office and have your computer looked at during our office hours at your leisure. For one on oneconsultation or a room visit, then an appointment is required.

 

Does the network support wireless printing?
Currently we do not support wireless printing. If you wanted to print through a personal wireless printer, you have to connect via USB. However, we are looking to add this ability in the future.

 

Can we bring routers?

All dorm facilities (with the exception of The Village) are now wireless. Wireless routers are not allowed or supported in our wireless dorm facilities.

 

How can I check the status of my computer in for service?
Our online call-logging system is available for students to access in order to view real-time updates on the progress of their repair.

 

What is the name of West Chester's wireless student network?
Use your West Chester email and password to connect to RamNet for computers, tablets, and mobile devices. Connect to RamNet Guest for entertainment devices (such as game consoles or set-top devices such as Roku). Use RamNet Help to get help.

 

How will I know when my computer is ready?
When your computer is finished you will receive a text, email, and call to your mobile phone informing you that it is ready for pickup at your earliest convenience.

 

What should I bring to ResNet in order to receive service?
Bring your student ID and power cord. We do not accept laptop cases.

 

Which antivirus program is recommended for PCs?
Our office uses Microsoft Security Essentials, which is available for free from Microsoft's website. For other supported antivirus/antispyware, click here.

 

Does the university provide any free software?
Microsoft Office is available as a free download.
