WCU Junior Lands Internship with PA Dept. of State

January 28, 2014

WCU Student Dept of State

Cody Marks of Allentown, N.J., is working for the Pennsylvania Department of State as part of a 15-week internship sponsored by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE).

Marks is a West Chester University junior majoring in political science: applied public policy with minors in history, philosophy and international business. He is the son of Karen and Todd Marks and a 2011 graduate of Allentown High School.

He is one of 14 students participating in The Harrisburg Internship Semester (THIS) program, which provides students the opportunity to work in all areas of state government while earning a full semester's worth of credits. Students from each of the 14 PASSHE universities are invited to participate. They attend several academic seminars during the semester and will complete an individualized research project as part of the program's requirements.

More than 500 students from PASSHE universities have participated in THIS since the program began in 1989, each gaining valuable insight into the workings of state government at the policy-making level. Interns have worked with dozens of state agencies, as well as in the offices of the governor, the speaker of the House of Representatives and the attorney general.

More information on the program is available at www.passhe.edu/this.
