Student and Faculty Information

Saturday, May 10, 2014 | Farrell Stadium

A Commencement rehearsal for all graduates will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 11:00 am, in Hollinger Field House.

Immediately following commencement rehearsal, students can go to the Alumni House, 101 Norfolk Ave (next to Sykes, behind Messikomer/Admissions), for a FREE brunch, sponsored by the WCU Alumni Association (WCUAA).

The brunch is being held to congratulate graduates and to welcome them to the WCUAA. It will include an assortment of food, prizes, an opportunity to network with alumni, information on how to get discounted health, auto, and renters insurance, a special appearance by Rammy, and much more.

Faculty participation in rehearsal is optional.

Caps, Gowns, and Announcements

You may submit your cap/gown order beginning March 3, 2014 at Oak Hall Cap and Gown.

The deadline to submit your cap/gown order on this webpage is April 4, 2014.

Caps/Gowns ordered through the webpage above may be picked up at the WCU bookstore beginning Monday, April 28, 2014:

  • Monday-Thursday: 8:00 am-6:00 pm
  • Fridays: 8:00 am-4:00 pm

Friday, May 9, 2014 at 1:00 pm is the last day to pick up your cap/gown.

If you missed the opportunity to order your Cap/Gown via the Oak Hall webpage, then you must pick up a Cap/Gown at the WCU Bookstore during the dates/times listed above.

Announcements will be available to all graduation applicants. Each graduate is entitled to ten standard announcements. You may pick up your announcements when you pick up your cap/gown.

There are no charges for these items as they are covered by the graduation fee.

For May outdoor ceremonies only: Students are NOT PERMITTED to wear heels due to the surface covering the football field.

Acceptable footwear: Flat-bottomed shoes and wedges are fine.

During the ceremony, diploma covers only will be distributed. The Registrar will mail diplomas to all graduates who have completed the requirements for their degrees. They will be mailed from the Registrar's Office following posting of final semester grades and verification of graduation requirements. Please allow 60 days.

If there are any outstanding issues that will prevent you from graduating, the Registrar's Office will notify you by mail.

Honor Cords

Honors cords may be purchased in the bookstore by all undergraduate students earning graduation honors (3.25 CUM GPA or higher, based on the last graded semester before graduation). The charge for the cord is $6.

A list of those students who have earned University academic honors has been provided to the bookstore. Students on the list will be entitled to purchase an honors cord. You will need to present a picture ID card when purchasing your honors cord. Students may pick up an honors cord for another student on the list with written permission and an ID card from that student.

Questions and concerns about Commencement, including honors designations, should be directed to the Office of the Registrar: 610-436-3541.
