West Chester University's College of Business and Public Affairs offers academic programs that feature small classes, excellent internship opportunities, and highly qualified faculty who are committed to teaching excellence and a wide range of research interests. The College consists of a total of 94 tenured and tenure track faculty members and 20 staff organized into ten departments: Accounting, Criminal Justice, Economics and Finance, Geography and Planning, Management, Marketing, Political Science, Public Policy and Administration, Undergraduate Social Work, and Graduate Social Work. The College offers 8 accredited programs to 3,212 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The School of Business is accredited by the AACSB and both the undergraduate and graduate Social Work Programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The Public Policy and Administration programs are currently under review for accreditation. The College of Business and Public Affairs is home to the Center for GIS and Spatial Analysis and the Dr. Edwin Cottrell Entrepreneurial Center, and also is affiliated with the Center for Social and Economic Policy Research. The College offers courses and supports programs at two off-campus locations. Graduate courses in business and public administration are held at the WCU Graduate Center. The Graduate Center is located approximately four miles from the main campus. Graduate courses in social work and criminal justice are offered at West Chester University’s new Philadelphia location in Center City Philadelphia, approximately 30 miles from the main campus.
As chief academic officer of the college, the dean provides leadership to advance the educational and scholarly missions of programs in the college and fosters an inclusive environment that encourages an academic climate that is responsive, focused, innovative, entrepreneurial and values diversity. The dean is the principal spokesperson and advocate for the College and sits on the Academic Affairs Council and President's Council to formulate and implement University policies and strategic plans. The dean is responsible for the review of curricula and programs, staffing, budgeting, oversight of all operational functions of the college, alumni cultivation, and fundraising. The dean also functions in various University-wide roles, and in the external community. The dean must be committed to collaborative, ethical leadership and skilled in human and financial resource management, as well as strategic planning. The dean reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The dean will possess an earned doctorate in a field that is represented in the College of Business and Public Affairs; a record of quality teaching, scholarship, and administrative experience at the college level in programs reflected in Business and Public Affairs; proven expertise and experience with specialized accreditation processes (AACSB, CSWE, NASPAA;) effective interpersonal skills, and highly proficient oral and written communication skills. Preferred qualifications include experience as a chair or program director in a large department or institution; and university level experience with budget and personnel within a collective bargaining environment.
