Strategic Planning
At West Chester University, we have now achieved excellence in much of what we do. To build on the wide-reaching accomplishments that have been guided by the Plan for Excellence, the University has begun developing a new strategic plan, to be titled Building on Excellence.
The time is right for our new strategic plan. The Plan for Excellence was adopted more than 10 years ago, in the spring of 2001, and was updated in 2007. Then in June 2011, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education formally acted to reaffirm West Chester University's institutional accreditation. This decision was based on a highly successful campus visit by a Middle States review team and on our University-wide self-study, which provides extensive examples of how the Plan for Excellence transformations have been successfully implemented.
The Strategic Planning Steering Committee is preparing to draft Building on Excellence. The work of the committee includes 1) an analysis of the current and future economic, political, technological, social, and higher-education environment; 2) intensive consultation with internal University stakeholders, including multiple opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to voice their concerns; 3) extensive consultation with external stakeholders, such as employers and political and educational leaders; and 4) review of existing University studies, reports, plans, and initiatives (such as those available on these Shared Vision web pages).
The Strategic Planning Road Map presents the basic timetable for the consultations with stakeholders and the preparation of documents. The draft plan will be presented to the University community during the spring semester 2012 and adopted before the end of the current academic year. As we develop Building on Excellence, I ask you to read the information and drafts carefully, to be invested in the process of creating the very best new plan for West Chester University, and to share your feedback, recommendations, and dreams for the future.
