Message From The Dean

Welcome to the Web site of the Undergraduate Studies and Student Support Services (USSSS) Division of West Chester University. This site describes the wide array of undergraduate student support programs offered by our division, including the Academic Development Program, the Pre-Major Academic Advising Center, the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities, the Learning Assistance and Resource Center, and the Freshman Interest Groups. The USSSS is also home to the Department of Educational Development, as well as the clearinghouse for advising and retention initiatives on campus.

Selected Facts About the Programs in the USSSS Division

  • The programs in our division serve more than 3,000 students per semester, primarily students in their first and second year of study.
  • The highly qualified faculty and staff in our programs have a deep commitment to student success and excellence.
  • The Academic Development Program has been named Best Developmental Program in the State of Pennsylvania by the Pennsylvania Association of Developmental Educators, and Best Developmental Program in the Nation by the National Association for Developmental Education.
  • The Learning Assistance and Resource Center's tutor training program is certified at the Master Tutor Level by the College Reading and Learning Association.
  • The Office of Services for Students with Disabilities is a US Department of Education TRIO Program grantee. Its grant is unique in the nation, as it provides services exclusively for students with disabilities.
  • Two of our programs, the Academic Development Program and the Freshman Interest Groups have components jointly supervised with professionals from WCU's Division of Student Affairs.

WCU faculty may also find valuable information on our advising and retention pages, which describe university-wide initiatives geared toward promoting student success and improving retention and graduation rates.

Many other aspects of our outstanding programs are presented within the pages of this site. I encourage you to explore our programs and contact us if you would like additional information.

Thank you for visiting and for allowing us to serve you.
