Sunday, March 28. Beta Theta Pi fraternity, in partnership with the Chester County Running Store, will host a 5K run/walk to benefit breast cancer research. The Eileen Haverluk Victorious Memorial is in honor of a brother’s mother who lost her battle with breast cancer. LECTURES

Tuesday, March 16, 7 p.m. Colleen Clemens a scholar in Postcolonial Literature, will present a talk about “the rhetoric of veiling” or how the idea of one essential “veil” is used in U.S. political rhetoric and in popular culture. Once Islam entered the U.S. national discourse after Sept. 11, the veil became a powerful symbol of women’s oppression under the Taliban and in the East. The idea of the veil impacts specific political climates currently. Clemens will discuss Turkey and Egypt’s current veiling policies to illustrate that the veil holds different meaning in different contexts to debunk the notion that there is such a thing as the veil.
