This course teaches participants self-hypnotic techniques.  Hypnosis is a natural state of altered consciousness.  The state of hypnosis allows for profound relaxation and stress reduction. Hypnosis can effect physical and mental positive changes driven by the use of positive suggestion. Learning self- hypnosis provides a method to deliberately induce the state of hypnosis in you.

Learning to access the self-hypnotic state can enhance your healthy living lifestyle, assist in moderating discomfort, effect personal change, mood, relationships and many more. During this class the participant will learn and practice two methods of inducing self-hypnotic states. An overview of hypnosis will be provided as well as details on the hypnosis services offered at West Chester University through the Mind-Body Institute of Applied Psychophysiology. The class format will be discussion, experiential, and question and answer. Handouts as well as iInformation concerning the availability of hypnosis and hypnotherapy practice here at the University will be provided.

Faculty: Dr. Edward F. Mackey Director of the Mind-Body Institute of Applied Psychophysiology at West Chester University. Dr. Mackey holds a doctorate in psychology as well as graduate degrees in Nurse Anesthesia and Public Health Nursing. Dr. Mackey is an Approved Consultant for the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and is a Diplomate of the American Psychotherapy Association.
