The Department of Geography and Planning undergraduate courses include introductory courses for world, human, and physical geography. More advanced courses are offered in economic, environmental, population and urban geography. The department offers a number of Geographic Information Science courses as well as applied GIS courses in business, social science, and criminal justice.

The Planning curriculum is also well developed. Advanced courses include planning law, land development control, transportation planning, land use planning, and planning design. The planning courses are often taught by expert planners who are practitioners in the field.
