  • M.Ed. Reading


  • Applicants must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university and show evidence of personal and professional qualities which indicate a potential for success in the Graduate Program in Reading.
  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on the last 48 credits earned and a minimum GPA of 2.8 for all undergraduate courses. For students who already possess a master's degree, the graduate GPA will be considered instead of the undergraduate GPA.
  • If undergraduate GPA on the last 48 credits earned is less than 3.0, scores from the GREs or the MAT (Miller Analogy Test) are required.
  • Candidates must have the Pennsylvania Instructional I Certificate. Send copy to the Graduate School Office.
  • Initial teaching certification.
  • Send two letters of professional recommendations indicating a record of competence and effectiveness in professional work.
  • Submit a completed application to the Graduate Office.
  • Send complete undergraduate transcript and proof of degree to the Graduate Office. If completed a Master's degree previously include the graduate transcripts as well.
  • Submit a copy of your goal's statement.

Other Important Information

  • A student wishing to transfer to the Graduate Program in Reading from another graduate department at West Chester University should formally request the transfer on an appropriate form available in the Graduate Office. After a review of the student's file by both the Graduate Office and the Graduate Reading Coordinator, the student will be informed by the Graduate Office of the decision made regarding his/her transfer. Previous acceptance by another department does not necessarily assure admittance into the Graduate Reading Program. Transfer students must meet the same requirements as above.
  • West Chester University requires that all applications and accompanying material be received in the Graduate Office no later than April 15 for the fall semester, October 15 for the spring semester, or thirty days prior to summer registration. It is possible to take up to nine credits of course work for professional growth before being formally admitted to the graduate program. The nine credits, if acceptable, would apply to the reading program after acceptance.
