West Chester University Starts Campus Abounds with Fall Arts Programs and Events

The Arts at WCU

West Chester University’s campus will be a hub for arts programming and events starting this Fall and continuing through the 2018/19 academic year.

More than 25 events are planned for September and October alone, and many performances are FREE and open to the public. Visit The Arts for a full listing of events and programs. Tickets are available for purchase at www.wcupatix.com or by calling 610-436-2266.

John Rhein, Director of Cultural and Community Affairs at West Chester University says, “We invite all members of the community to come onto West Chester’s campus to experience the arts with us! Ours is a vibrant and bustling campus, with an abundance of arts offerings to attract all ages and interests.”

He adds, “The artistic quality — from student and faculty led productions, to the professional presentations that are part of our WCU Live! Series — rivals that of anything I’ve seen in Philadelphia, New York and beyond, and many events are free and open to the public, or tickets are priced affordably.”

A few Fall highlights include:

The Department of Art + Design jumpstarts the season with two exhibits opening on August 27th. Through September 28, graphic designer David Jones presents HOWDY in Knauer Gallery, while ceramic artist Andrew Snyder’s FAMILY TREE exhibits in the Baker Gallery through October 12.

The Department of Theatre and Dance presents Sophocles’s classic Greek tragedy, ANTIGONE, in a contemporary adaptation by the award-winning poet, Anne Carson, from October 12 – 20; followed by Lerner and Loewe’s delightful musical MY FAIR LADY from November 8 – 15. REVIVAL, A DANCE CONCERT on November 9 and 10, includes works by dance faculty and professional guest artists from the Philadelphia area.

STEVE FORBES, the renowned Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Forbes Magazine, comes to campus on Saturday, October 20, as part of the President’s Speaker series; and the WCU Live! Performing Arts Series presents the fun-for-all-ages ARTRAGEOUS, in an interactive art and music experience on November 2.

Finally, out of West Chester’s esteemed School of Music comes a plethora of musical concerts and events, all FREE and open to the public. The Philadelphia Orchestra’s distinguished concertmaster, DAVID KIM, is on campus for a Master Class on Wednesday, September 5th; and the School of Music’s professional Quartet in Residence, DALI QUARTET, performs in concert on September 16th.  September 27th welcomes the WIND ENSEMBLE and WIND SYMPHONY in concert together, the school’s SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA plays on October 4, and the FALL CHORAL FESTIVAL takes place on October 18. Opera at West Chester presents A BERNSTEIN CELEBRATION on November 2 and 3, and the school’s CRITERIONS JAZZ ENSEMBLE plays on November 16.
