West Chester University’s Digital Collections

Purpose:

West Chester University’s Digital Collections contains scanned or photographed images and PDFs of unique objects held in Francis Harvey Green Library’s Special Collections and Archives or in the Philip’s Autograph Library. The aim of these collections is to increase access and to promote the preservation of the fragile and highly used items in the collections. The Digital Collections are continually growing as more objects and materials are discovered and digitized. Please contact the Special Collections and Archives for more information.

The digital collections are freely accessible to all members of the WCU campus as well as outside researchers and the serendipitous web surfer.

History and Funding:

West Chester University’s Digital Collections have been made available through two different projects. First, West Chester has collaborated with the Keystone Library Network (KLN) Digital Collections. The KLN represents the 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) and other affiliated libraries in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This collaboration includes diverse materials from a majority of the 14 state system universities.

The second project was made possible through a collaboration with the Internet Archive using University Performance Funding in conjunction with a special grant from the Sloane Foundation to Lyrasis. This project included a mass digitization of all of the University’s yearbooks, course catalogs, and two written histories.
