Biography
I am a linguist who studies the intersection of language, culture, and society, with a focus on English speaking communities in the United States. My current research looks at the use of singular 'they' and other non-binary pronouns in English, especially among trans and non-binary speakers. More recently I have also looked at different uses of gesture and the body (including eye gaze and laughter) in social interaction; language in digital/online spaces; issues of language and sexual consent; and discourse markers in English.
